Jack is another prodigy who makes an impact in the world of the Eternal Curse. In the case of Jack, knowing too much can hurt you. Jack is raised by a human family who not only knows about the others who walk the earth; they also associate with these beings.

Jack’s story is interesting because he, oddly enough as a human, poses a threat to both the others and the humans; not that he wants to be a threat to either in the beginning. Jack’s first battle is with his government and his right to have a powerful mind. He is taken from his home at a young age and forced to work for the government or be forever labeled a terrorist, but that’s another matter.

Jack’s thirst for knowledge doesn’t end with the knowledge of humanity. He begins to study and master the knowledge of supernatural beings and worlds. It is this knowledge that puts him in the path of Giovanni and Mira. They decide to help him and in return he helps them.

While Jack is much younger than Giovanni and Mira when they first meet, his maturity helps them all to develop a lasting friendship. There are good sons and bad sons, but when Giovanni and Jack become like brothers, lines of good and bad begin to blur. No matter what happens between them, two facts remain constant. They will both do any for Mira and they are both not to be trifled with.

Sheldon is the product of ignorance and deceit. His birth was planned by both his father and his mother, but since they never actually met, it makes sense that their plans for the child clashed tremendously leaving everyone involved dissatisfied.

When Sheldon was born his mother thought he was dead or disfigured and so took her own life. He was left to be raised by strangers, but strangers who decided he deserved a better fate than what was planned for him.

Sheldon became a warrior for the righteous at a very young age and, ironically (explained in the book), never knew what it was to have a childhood until he met his new family. When Sheldon first met his adoptive family it was all business; he was to protect Mira on a mission. Years later Sheldon would find himself welcomed into a strange home that existed in both the world of reality and the illusion of a human only existence.

In Sheldon’s new home, for the first time, he would have a father, a mother, a sister, and become acquainted with humans who didn’t fear him.

Tori is the product of an unplanned pregnancy. This is known only because she is discovered abandoned. We know nothing about her biological parents or background. Giovanni finds her and brings her to Mira and they decide to keep her.

Tori is average in the best possible way. Unlike other members of her adoptive family, she gets to have quit a few normal experiences and blends in with “regular” people just fine. From an early age she looks to her father and brother as her protectors and puts her mother on a pedestal of realistic perfection.

Tori doesn’t attend public school, but she receives an education and has opportunities to socialize with her human peers. When she grows up, Tori attends college and remains, for the most part, shielded from the dangers the rest of her family faces daily.

After graduating from college, Tori is burdened with the decision of what to do next. She’s at a point in her life when she can continue to tip-toe between the two worlds she was raised in or finally make a choice, choosing one over the other.
