Review: Life Is Difficult

La Vita E’ Triste, Ma Pure Bella: Life Is Difficult, But Also Beautiful by Mary R Pagano

I give this book a 4.

LikeIt

Here I thought my family was crazy! Just kidding, but not really. 😉

This memoir is a short read for those who read memoirs all the time. It took me a while to read it, only because I read a bunch of other stuff at the same time. For me, reading intense drama based on reality requires the break of escapism through fiction from time to time. While this story does have light moments, most of it is drama…family drama.

Every family is different, it’s true, but I think we are all more alike than we’d sometimes like to admit. There were things that happened in this story that would never have gone down in my family without someone calling the cops and actually following through on the charges, but not everyone thinks that way. There are things you’ll put up with from family that a stranger couldn’t even contemplate trying to do.

I liked this story because it made me appreciate my family and my life, for all the struggles we do and don’t have that bring us closer together. This is a short and simple read filled with drama and emotion.

I recommend this book to fans of memoirs.

Eternal Curse: Giovanni’s Angel chapter 8.1 (wip)

I began to catch my breath as I looked around. I reached for my lantern and lit it. I looked down and pulled up the blanket I’d thrown over him. There lay this boy, a youth almost a man my age, but still a child. I remember thinking that he was pale, not quite white, but definitely lacking in color under the night sky. His body was bloody and bruised. There was a rope hanging from around his visibly bruised neck.

I reached down and tried to cradle him in my arms. I turned his head to look into his eyes, to see if he was conscious, but my reflexes were overloaded as my whole body jumped when my skin touched his. It felt like lightening was running through my body and pulling at me somehow. Then he looked at me. His eyes were black like charcoal; I’d never seen anything like it. It startled me so, that I let go of him and stumbled back a few feet.

“Well now,” she said calmly as though she hadn’t just been crying. “I presume you are in charge of security, so what shall we do first?” I continued to be amazed by her. She was so different from any regular person I’d ever known, but then it didn’t take me long to realize that she wasn’t “regular” at all.

I spoke up taking charge as I had many times before with those of my kind. “First we need to secure a cover for us to travel together and I need to make sure that we are not being tracked.”
