My 5 Songs of Summer are:

Summertime | In the Summer Time | Hot Hot Hot!

Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World | Little Bitty Pretty One

Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. See lyrics here.  See video below.

I was born in the 80s and raised in the 90s, and I’m truly a product of both. Infused with jazz and hip-hop, this is definitely a song for my generation with some urban soul.

This song reminds me of a time when little girls could dance around in sundresses and bathing suits just for fun without trying to look older than they are. It seems like kids grow up way faster than they need to these days. It’s a fun song that praises the idea of laying back and not taking things too seriously or taking them to extremes. Great for a summer cook-out.

In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry. See lyrics here. See video below.

I can’t remember the first time I heard this song, but I know I was too young to understand the words. As I got older and understood them, I still liked the song. It’s not a bad or good message. It’s almost an “Hakuna matata” song with an adult theme. In any case, it’s always made me think of summer and hanging out at the beach…Oh and, not that I’m hating on Shaggy, but the original is much better.

Hot Hot Hot (Arrow song) by Buster Poindexter. See lyrics here. See video below.

The song speaks for itself even if the video doesn’t. Summertime is hot and so is this song. Every good summer party needs this song. It’s fun.

Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. See lyric here. See video below.

What’s not to like about this song. It takes two sweetly motivational and uplifting songs and puts them together with ukulele music, making you feel like you’re enjoying yourself on a tropical island. Sweet!

Little Bitty Pretty One by Thurston Harris. See lyrics here. See video below.

This song makes me want to dance all summer long. Other than that, I have no idea why this song makes me think of summer, but it does.

The “Writing Process” Blog Tour

I was introduced to this lovely tour by a very powerful writer and friend, Glynis Rankin of Imaginings . She challenges me as writing to dig deeper into my soul, but I’m saving that for another post. Be sure to visit her contribution to this tour and see what she has going on…

And now, down to me. 😉

What am I working on?

I’m currently working on two independent projects. I’m in the editorial phase of publication for the second book in my Eternal Curse Series. I’m hoping to make alternations after receiving feedback from two beta readers before submitting to an editor.

I’m also working to complete the first draft of my first work of contemporary fiction, a romance entitled It’s Like the Full Moon.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

The fact that none of my work seems to fit neatly into any specific genre is an indication of how unique it is. I don’t want to give the impression that I’m writing ground breaking material that is setting new precedents, but I am doing things in my own special way which seems to ruffle a few feathers.

I’ve been told that my tales of romance aren’t typical, that my sci-fi is daunting, that my paranormal is truly relevant, and that much of my work has strong spiritual undertones. This is all true, however I fear some will be left with a misconception of my works. Not all of my writing is deep, but a lot of it is. Some of my stories have strong religious ties, while others focus more on the human condition.  Some of my work is purely for entertainment.

I don’t know if my readers are ready for some of the works I’ll be presenting in the future, but I hope I have enough time to ease them into it.

Why do I write what I do?

I don’t know if it can be classified as OCD, but I feel compelled to tell the stories created in my head. It’s one thing to write them down, to share them with friends, but to have them published and presented to the masses is something else entirely. My works haven’t made it to any bestsellers lists yet, but I feel a sense of comfort knowing that someone may stubble upon one of my stories and connect to it in some way.

Ultimately I want to entertain people with stories that, hopefully, make them laugh, cry, swoon, and even shiver with fear…But don’t jump to conclusions; I don’t have the mindset to write horror or erotica.

How does your writing process work?

While creative is key, I go into my writing with strategic precision. I know my weak points and rely on the skills of others to clean up my work and make it presentable, but I have a unique voice that I refuse to have altered.

Typically when I write a story, this is what happens:

-Idea and notes

-More notes and outline, and outline

-Character and setting outlines and profiles

-Transition notes and plot development.

-Writing, writing, reading, editing, writing, reading, reading, editing, writing, reading, editing, editing

-Then others finally get to see it for feedback

Who’s Up Next

-L.A. Little, author of Deadblood and soon to be many more.

The Ways, The Methods, & The Tools | @LALittle12*

-Andrew Hess, author of The Phoenix Blade Project Justice:  Writer’s Revolution

Wormfest 2014 Finale! – The Island of Dr. Moreau Quote

2014 National Wormhole Week and Blog Hop! 3/10-16/2014

Click to learn more.

This blog hop and blog tour are brought to you by: Alex Cavanaugh, L. Diane Wolfe, and Stephen Tremp– the author of Escalation.

For 2014, the theme is to name one thing where science advances mankind, and one where technology with unforeseen consequences will go too far and set mankind back. Example: De-Extinction, or bringing back extinction species through back breeding, genetic engineering, and cloning. With all the breakthrough discoveries mankind is on the cusp of, are we playing God?

Feel free to reference movies and books too. These provide no shortage if inspiration. Speaking of de-extinction, the book and movie Jurassic Park comes to mind where science takes a huge leap forward, but also backfires. I’m looking forward to all the amazing responses everyone will have.

****

Each day this week I’ll be sharing quotes from sci-fi movies or books along with my thoughts on how far technologies still needs to go and where I think it will go too far.

Goodreads

Today I’m focusing on what not to do in terms of scientific advancements.

The book I’ve picked for today is The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells (the movie(s) are not worth mentioning, but I guess I just did).

From the book, The Island of Dr. Moreau I give you…

“I must confess that I lost faith in the sanity of the world” ~not sure of the character ― H.G. Wells, The Island of Dr. Moreau (from Goodreads)

Ok so this story is good, but oh so wrong. Jurassic Park has nothing on this story of genetic foul play. I sincerely hope people haven’t lost their minds enough to start trying to create new species- oh wait, they have!

You can call it a designer breed all you want, but a yorky-coker-poo is still a mutt. And what’s with these crazy people breeding Ligers and Tigons?

I’m ending my self-imposed week of Wormfest posting with a note of caution. Let’s not make new species and leave that up to nature, because it’s going to be REALLY BAD! 🙁

****

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out all the other ideas and theories about where technology is heading and going wrong.
