Review: Brave New World

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

I give this book a strong 3.

Okay

This is a compelling story that seems to have not only to be written as a warning for the future, but also to just make you a little angry at human intellect. Set in a future of “perfection”, Bernard doesn’t feel as happy he’s told he should. He decides to visit a “savage” reservation to gain perspective only to find that he isn’t the “rebellious lone wolf” he thinks he is. In the end, Bernard is the product of the world he lives in, but he still manages to cause a ruckus in the lives of others before realizing this.

This book shows what a wonderfully peaceful existence life could be through control, conformity, segregation, a lax moral code, and drug-induced feelings of happiness. I found this book to be very sad, but shockingly real. This is the story of what could happen to the world, but I hope it doesn’t.  Not that teens would be interested in this book, but I’d recommend it to them (with their parent’s permission). This is a book that plucks a lot of nerves and may not be for everyone, but is definitely worth reading. I see this book going over well with male readers.

Eternal Curse: Giovanni’s Angel chapter 4 (wip)

Mira didn’t know if she was truly terrified or compellingly intrigued. Was this all real or was she just dreaming? Mira slowly began to fade back into reality as she heard a deeply thunderous angelic voice call out to her, “Mira…Mira are you all right?” The sound of that voice calling out her name almost resembled the poetic melody and chorus of a love song. Her eyes opened with a glare in her vision as she began to focus and stare carefully. Finally, with clear wide-open irises, she realized that she had not been dreaming at all. It was all actually happening and he was actually real.

Eternal Curse: Battleground chapter 2.1(wip)

“Hey Sis, you feel that?” asked Sheldon.

“Yeah, I do.”

“I don’t feel anything,” said Michelangelo. Uncle Jack reached up, slapped Michael on the back of his head, and then shushed him.

Desperately I asked, “Where is it coming from, Sheldy?”

“He’s in the domicile,” he said turning and twisting his head, trying to lock in on the location of the familiar sensation.

“That’s not possible; I’ve been here all day. I would have seen him,” I proclaimed.

Jack sighed and put his hand on my shoulder. “You were out for a little bit when you took to pastor and the undertaker to view the plot.”

“You’re right,” I said, as I came into the realization.

“I think…” said Sheldon as he closed his eyes and concentrated. He walked around in a circle and then grabbed my hand, held it and squeezed it tight. “I think he’s in the lab.”
