About the Author

Jacob Tate is an Amazon Dark Fantasy Best Selling Author who writes with a focus in paranormal, mystery, horror and fantasy. Currently residing in Lebanon, OH. His passion includes gore, monsters, decapitations and other totally rad things similar to these. His first book of the Max Cutter series is available now on Kindle/Amazon. The second book in the series will be available in the Fall of 2014.

The Max Cutter series is written with a humorous style to accompany the horror and supernatural components, and it revolves around a fun loving and sarcastic central character. Max is often thrust into extremely dangerous situations and symbolizes being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He counters the awkwardness of facing monsters, ghosts, demons and potential death through a wry and catching wit.

A child of the 80’s, Jacob infuses his work with a number of movie, cartoon and TV references that date back to Star Wars and work their way up until present day.

Review: Linger

Linger and Other Short Stories by Glynis Rankin

I give this book a 3.

Okay

I am not a fan of short stories in general, though they are growing on me, and I’m not a fan of intense, emotional, realistic dramas (I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi), but I enjoyed this book, if enjoyed is the right term. This book, this collection of stories, is more of an experience that you either appreciate or not. There are moments that I enjoyed, but overall this book is a reaction seeker. It’s not really something you enjoy, but something you experience and react to.

Many aspects of this collection made me very uncomfortable, but if it didn’t I’d wonder about the kind of person I am. I know myself very well and understand that I intentionally stay away from certain topics, but that doesn’t mean I’m afraid to address those issues head on. I’ve recommended this book to many people because it is powerful. I’m sure there are others who’ll receive it even better than I have, but for now, I’m glad to have had the experience and am ready to return to my world of fantasy.  😉

I do not recommend this book to children, and only recommend it to teens under strict parental supervision. This is an intense adult read worth experiencing.

Worth a Watch

David Bowie, Jennifer Connely, and Muppets- what’s not to love!

Here’s another example of something from my childhood bringing out my creativity, but this one has a little twist. I have always adored this movie, but when I was younger it scared me. I watched it over and over and I always jumped at the right moments, and shivered, and cried, at all the same scenes. This was the first time I really understood that good stories with a positive message could also be a little dark. Not everything has to be sunshine and roses for the good guys and black crows and mud for the bad guys.

The idea of the labyrinth itself is powerfully imaginative. Stories of mazes and labyrinths go back to ancient times, and I’m a believer in looking to the past for inspiration. I’ve only written one short story to date using this staple of myth and fantasy, but it won’t be my last.
