Seeking #authors #illustrators, #editors & more for interviews! #booklovers

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This post is for book lovers like me.

Not sure if you noticed any changes in my posts as of late, but I’ve really switched gears to focus more on my love of reading. When I was approached to take over the IWSG Book Club I took it as a sign. While I will always be a writer at heart, whether I publish or not, I really think I’m a booklover first. More importantly, I want more people to read. That’s why I consider myself a reading advocate. I want everyone to have a healthy reading lifestyle, at whatever level that means for them. Of course, I’m all for the spread of literacy, but I also think there’s value in seeing reading as a form of entertainment. That’s why I’ve decided to launch my new interview series on YouTube.

I want to create an interview series that’s all about how great authors, books, and reading really are. I don’t want just another interview program about shameless and boring self-promotion. I want to sit down with authors, illustrators, and other industry professionals and talk about why reading is so wonderful, how they come up with their stories, break down some of their best plots, and then get silly and relate to them on a real and personal level.

I get that this won’t be for everyone, but I think it will be a lot of fun and look forward to being able to share it with the world. Click the images below to learn more.

Monthly Question: How has being a writer changed your experience as a reader?

****

Being a writer has turned me into a hungry reader. I used to just read to escape and or enjoy a good story. Now when I read, I want more. I want to be inspired. I want to learn. I want to see what does and doesn’t work. I want to experience the stories, good or bad, to better my own writing.

I still read for pure enjoyment, but now I also read for review and critique. I find that while I’m more critical over plot, character, and world development, I’ve become more compassionate about all the technical stuff. I don’t ignore or make excuses for outright bad writing and poor editing, but I recognize how difficult it is to find good, reliable, and affordable editing services as an indie; and don’t get me started on critique partners and support groups. Anyone can call him or herself a writer, but to be a good writer- to be an author- it takes determination and creativity that not everyone has.

Being a writer has made me truly respect all the books I’ve always loved. If you’d like to know more about my thoughts on reading, please consider following this blog (I post reviews twice a month) and checking out my You Tube channel.

About Toi Question of the Month

#Question of the Month: a #bloghop to think about. No. 4- “What’s the best job you’ve ever had?”

A little while ago, Michael D’Agostino, of A Life Examined, brought up the idea of a new blog hop called Question of the Month. He thinks blog readers would like to know a little more about us, the bloggers. So we’re all gathering to show you guys who we are by taking part in the Question of the Month blog hop. On the first Monday of each month, we answer the question that gets posted here.

This month’s question is: “What’s the best job you’ve ever had?”

I’ve had many jobs and most I haven’t thought were what I’d consider a dream job, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like some of them. When I worked as an admin for a local production company, the hours were good, the office was quiet, making my tedious but simple task pleasant to do, but the pay was a joke.

When I had a nice paying job, the work sucked the life out of me. Now that I’m a special education teacher’s assistant, I don’t even think about money, it would just be cruel to myself to do so. Respect is out the window as well since teachers are currently the scapegoats for everything wrong with society even though we don’t have any control over the system. I do this job solely for the kids.

So, looking back at all the jobs I’ve done, I’d have to say college tutor was my best gig. For that time and place in my life, the pay was good, the hours were great, the clients were willing and cooperative adults who wanted my help and I wanted to help them.

The only job that could possibly top that would be if I could somehow manage to work from home making enough to pay my bills and still write.

Please check out the other participants in this hop and even join in if you’d like.
