#iwsgbookclub Feb. 2022 Check-in

It’s time for a monthly check-in. We, at the IWSG Book Club, invite you to share your thoughts and or progress on our current member spotlight books via the social media platform(s) of your choice. I’ll be sharing my thoughts below and encourage you to share here if you’re not up for heading to social media.

Amazon.com – not the latest cover

I finished this story early in the month and enjoyed it. It’s a great example of classic sword and sorcery. The Christian themes work well with the plot and come off as cultural rather than persuasive or political. This is simply the world in which this story takes place. I will say more in my review.

WIP- getting close to the end. This book has been a challenge for me to read but I will wait for my review to say more. Still, anyone who’s read any of my other reviews should already know that YA is a genre I struggle with, which is not a reflection of the authors who write in that genre. Sometimes I read YA and enjoy it and sometimes I don’t. I’ll let you know the verdict on this book once I’ve completed it.

In case you missed it, I’m starting a new video interview series on my YouTube channel. Click here if you’d like to learn more.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. If you like it let me know and share it with others. See you next time, Toi Thomas. #thetoiboxofwords #blacklivesmatter

Seeking #authors #illustrators, #editors & more for interviews! #booklovers

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This post is for book lovers like me.

Not sure if you noticed any changes in my posts as of late, but I’ve really switched gears to focus more on my love of reading. When I was approached to take over the IWSG Book Club I took it as a sign. While I will always be a writer at heart, whether I publish or not, I really think I’m a booklover first. More importantly, I want more people to read. That’s why I consider myself a reading advocate. I want everyone to have a healthy reading lifestyle, at whatever level that means for them. Of course, I’m all for the spread of literacy, but I also think there’s value in seeing reading as a form of entertainment. That’s why I’ve decided to launch my new interview series on YouTube.

I want to create an interview series that’s all about how great authors, books, and reading really are. I don’t want just another interview program about shameless and boring self-promotion. I want to sit down with authors, illustrators, and other industry professionals and talk about why reading is so wonderful, how they come up with their stories, break down some of their best plots, and then get silly and relate to them on a real and personal level.

I get that this won’t be for everyone, but I think it will be a lot of fun and look forward to being able to share it with the world. Click the images below to learn more.

#iwsgbookclub Feb. 2022 Poll & What I #read in Jan.

Please join the IWSG Book Club today on Goodreads for a short general poll. Aside from spotlighting two IWSG member books each month, we also want to engage in bookish whimsy and encourage others to have a healthy reading lifestyle. You don’t have to be reading or have read the 2 current featured books to be able to participate in this poll, so please, join in the festivities. Click the image below to see our fun poll. This month the topic is about subgenres and subplots.

In January 2022, I read 5 books and am ahead in my Goodreads challenge, making my way through the Write With Fey challenge, and enjoying the IWSG book club reads. Check it out.
