What I #read in Feb. ’23 & what I #amreading!

Today the IWSG Book Club launches our March discussion about what we are reading. It doesn’t have to be a book club selection just something you are excited about. Let’s all share what we are reading, and perhaps, we’ll find something to add to our own TBR lists. Click this link to go straight to the discussion. I’m currently reading Spiral of Hooves & In Darkness: The Vampire.

In February 2023, I completed 5 titles. My goal was 3. Two of the publications I read were novelettes in a series and one book I previously DNFed. I read through the first part very quickly to get caught up to where I originally left off. So far, I’m going well with my Goodreads Challenge.

The Shape of Water #TheToiBoxOfWords #film #review

moviereview

It’s been a while since I’ve done a movie review so I didn’t even bother trying to write it down. I simply went straight to YouTube.

So, here’s a movie that people will either get or not. For that matter, some people probably won’t even give it a try, but I can’t blame them. This is a weird movie. Still, I enjoyed it; after getting over the initial shock of what was happening in front of me…

I don’t think I’m doing a good job of expressing how I really feel about this movie. It’s best you watch the review. If you want to skip a semi-spoiler I provide, watch the video in the YouTube browser so you can access the skip link.

In any case, I gave this movie a 4 ½ of 5 stars (bumping up to five because I’ve never really done halves before).

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. If you like it let me know and share it with others. See you next time, Toi Thomas. #thetoiboxofwords

What Happened to Monday? #TheToiBoxOfWords #film #review

moviereview

I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been watching much TV or movies lately, and I definitely haven’t had time to prepare any videos. I don’t even really have time to post this, but here I go. In lieu of an actual review, I’m simply sharing the line-by-line notes I usually link to. These are the thoughts that pass through my mind as I’m watching a movie. They don’t always make sense, but are always entertaining. They shouldn’t have any spoilers either.

So here are my thoughts.

Excited to see the actress from the original “Girl with the Dragon tattoo” movie.

Dull intro credits.

Climate change, overpopulation, genetically modified crops, mutated babies.

Child Allocation Act.

Ah, Glen Close.

Love Willem Defoe. Great when he’s great. Awesomely bad when he’s bad.

Sunday- smart business look, seems sweet. It begins.

Nothing like ripping a child from a mother’s hand.

The doorman is on to them

Saturday looks like trouble.

Thursday goes first.

Nope, I was wrong. Thursday is the troublemaker, but sometimes that’s good.

What happens to one happens to them all… That’s sad.

Monday is the brave one.

Monday- the big day.

She’s short and he’s tall.

Monday is off the grid.

Friday is the smart one.

Tuesday- two outside at once.

Jerry is more than just a d*ck.

The flirtatious guard; a possible ally.

No need to kill the only other black person in the movie. Cliché. Bad writing.

These chicks are scrappy.

Wednesday- no need to pretend anymore.

Wednesday is cool, a little jumpy, but cool.

I really like Wednesday right now.

That was freak’n awesome!

She’d totally be dead or paralyzed.

There’s always a ghetto. Fight the power.

Thursday is not what she seems. I like her more now.

Dang.

The guard was seeing Monday?

I could do without this scene. It’s not vital to the story. Just fulfills some people’s need for nudity.

Thursday- three left; Monday is alive?

Yep, Monday.

Well, at least Saturday got in one good adventure.

Turns out, Friday was the sweet one.

He really cares about Monday.

Of course, the plan was a lie. At least it’s not soylent green.

Monday is not what she seems either.

Two of them in one big ballroom! 😀

That’s messed up.

Gonna check it out?
