Unfortunately, Cinco de Mayo is still not considered an official U.S. national holiday. If you ask me, without the Battle of Puebla, to which it commemorates, Texas and much of the southwestern U.S. could still be in the hands of the French today. Aside from the fact that I’m from Texas and share a small amount of Mexican culture, I think this holiday is another wonderful educational opportunity. Instead of going out and drinking heavily, you could use this time as an opportunity to learn about another culture. So with that I say…

I used to live in Arizona and even thought it’s not an official holiday, everyone celebrated it.
Yeah, I miss celebrating it like I used to, but some years to do better than others.
