My Geekdom

I’m not always crazy about her wardrobe, but with the power to control weather, she can wear whatever she wants. Aside from the fact that Storm is a strong black female character, she has one the most amazing and impactful powers in all the Marvel universe. When I think about really great superheroes, I consider what the impact of their abilities would be if they were actually villains.

If Storm was a bad guy, she could wipe out entire nations with floods, tornados, etc… I like to be inspired by characters like this when writing fantasy because it keeps me from being lazy with my creativity and imagination.

Classic Betty

I like Betty Boop, but more specifically, I like classic Betty.

For the most part I don’t mind old ideas or stories being given a new spin, twist, or retelling, but none of the new Betty stuff is as good as Max Fleischer’s original American sweetheart. I feel like Betty is misunderstood by the masses, a feeling I often have concerning myself. She’s a cartoon, but not necessarily for kids, even though she’s not a bad girl. I think some of my stories and even some of my characters are like this and I’m not speaking specifically of my Eternal Curse Series.

I’d love to see classic Betty back on the big screen. Her cameo in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” was cute, but this star deserves to shine on her own.

I like Disney a lot, especially Walt Disney the man, that doesn’t mean I like and agree with everything Disney produces and the man did. I think the main reason why I like Disney so much is because it teaches people of all ages to think big, to look up into the sky, pick out a star, and set a course. Disney teaches the power of imagination.

There are tons of ways I could connect my adoration for Disney to my writing and my Eternal Curse Series, but I won’t. I like it. That’s it.
