Tea and Conversation 01: Why fantasy?

Today in my meditation on the Eternal Curse, I’m writing about: Why fantasy?

I did not set out to become a writer, but when I realized it was a part of who I am, it just felt right. I had no idea that I’d ever need to be concerned about the way or style of my writing and definitely not the genre in which I write.  I believe that there may be a memoir inside me somewhere, but for now I’m sticking with fiction. I like fiction for so many reasons, but mainly because it removes all limitations. Anything can happen in fiction!

When I started writing Eternal Curse, there was no doubt that it was going to be a fantasy story; as I’ve learned it’s more specifically an urban fantasy/ paranormal romance. Again I never set out to become a fantasy writer. This story put itself together, I was just there to record it. Don’t get me wrong, I love fantasy and will probably write more of it, but it’s not “my” genre.

I don’t like kidding myself one bit. I’ll probably never write a great comedic story, even though I very much enjoy comedy, it’s just not in my writing mentality. I will, however, dabble in sci-fi, romance, mystery, contemporary fiction, and more.

With a story like Eternal Curse: Giovanni’s Angel and the sequels to come, limitless possibilities are just the beginning. In the world of fantasy, you get to make the impossible possible and make any dream or nightmare a reality.

Character Files from the ToiBox 19: Mira- Bio

ECGA-M

Image3Biography: Subject EC:GA 4-Mira

Mira was born to poverty in third-word Africa, but was blessed by the presence of a benefactor. He took her out of Africa and poverty and showered her with gifts, advantages, and everything she could possibly need, but failed to give her the one thing she wanted most, a family.

Once in the hands of western scholars, Mira was labeled an academic prodigy. She devoted her young life to collecting accomplishments and knowledge. Before heading off to college she was finally connected with her absente guardian/benefactor. When she learned that he was dying, she put aside her years of pent-up regret and anger and decided to travel the world with him.

After seeing the world and all its wonders, Mira worried about the path she’d chosen and whether or not she’d find happiness. She attended college and graduate school, and collected several undergraduate degrees, a few Master’s, and her Doctorate in medicine. She never really had a chance to celebrate her achievements, since the death of her benefactor left her an heiress and a local public figure.

Mira’s life continued to move long swiftly until she ended her engagement to a fellow alum and partner in her research foundation.  After that well thought out part of her life didn’t work out the way she planned, Mira slumped into a rut. For years she went about simply going through the motions of seeing patients and running her businesses.

Only when she met a social networker named GrayNisol8ed, did her life begin to get interesting again. After developing a virtual friendship with this person, she learned that his name was Giovanni and that he was very troubled. Needing a break from her own issues and reality, Mira decides to meet Giovanni to see if he is all that he says he is- and he says he a lot.

Full Moon WIP Updates

WIP Update 05

WIPUIt’s been a while since my last update, so there’s a lot to cover, but I don’t want to overwhelm you.

I finally decided to look to the future and made a decision about how I wanted my little romance to end. I know who Rebecca from, It’s Like the Full Moon, will end up with. I just need to finish writing the story so I can move forward. This story, after all this time, is still just in first draft mode. Once I finish this draft, I will finally be able to go back and properly develop all the characters and setting before evening beginning to worry about grammar and syntax.

I’ve started to look over my short stories and decided to release what I have. I’m still putting the finishing touches on some of them, but I think I’m ready for the editor. I’ve also decided to make this, soon to be self-published, collection truly worth the price I set for it by including a never before shared novella within it. So basically, this will be a hefty little read.

I have made so many strides in my Solomon’s Sword story that I’m going to leave my next update open solely for reporting on that. I’m very excited about where this story is going…

Feeling a little lost about what’s going on in this post? Just see the side panel and search My Topics, WIP Updates, to get all caught up. Also check my WIP tab to see what else I may be working on.

Do you have a WIP update to share?
