Day 4- Nomenclature: What’s in a Name? #write31days 2014

31day-edit

Term of the day: nomenclature: the set of words or terms used in a specific subject or area.

Thoughts:

This is basically another way of saying lingo. In many areas of society having or using the wrong lingo, terminology, or nomenclature can be detrimental. Knowing when to look for the boot, instead of the truck, while traveling overseas can save lots of time, but it goes much deeper than simple colloquialisms. Knowing when to say or use centimeters instead of inches can cause or save lives. Knowing the right thing to say in the right situation can really make a difference.

Name of the day: Bletsian.

Breakdown and meaning:

This is a name I made up specifically for my Eternal Curse Series. I wanted to create a character name that was a bit elusive, and yet powerful. Bletsian is an alter ego for the most part, but what he represents is crucial to the overall meaning of the story. Bletsian is actually an ancient Greek root for the word blessing, and I’ve used it as a name for a very special character.

Well, that’s it for Day 4. See you tomorrow.

Day 3- Etymology: What’s in a Name? #write31days 2014

31day-edit

Term of the day: etymology: study of the evolution or changes within words’ history.

Thoughts:

I like the idea that words change and evolve and not just because of the existence of urban slag. The dictionary used to seem to be this static entity, but I know now that it is ever-changing and evolving. Gay, short for gaiety, still means joyous and happy, but now it also means homosexual, thanks to Cary Grant dressed in a woman’s bathrobe. Of course, that’s a story for another day.

Name of the day: Giovanni.

Breakdown and meaning:

With both Hebrew and Italian origins, Giovanni is either a “gift from God” or “God is gracious”. So why this name you ask? This is the name of my hero, the star of my Eternal Curse Series. In book one, Eternal Curse: Giovanni’s Angel, Giovanni discovers who he is and the meaning of his name, as well as how it all ties in together.

Well, that’s it for Day 3. See you tomorrow.

Mira’s Closet: 09/29/14: Accessorizing

MClosetMira’s no fashionista, but she definitely has her own sense of style…
And now here’s an update on just that.

First an observation: Like Mira, I’m no fashionista, but I do have my own sense of style. One thing most people pick up on about my style is the way I accessorize. I love to accessorize, but I am limited in the ways in which I do it. It is indeed rare to see me carry a purse or wear a cute pair of shoes. I just never got into the whole “chicks dig purses” thing and I have all kinds of problems with my feet. I’ve never had a chance to fall in love with cute shoes. Oh but don’t feel too bad for me; I still have all my hair accessories, scarves, and jewelry. To most people, I’m the girl with the flower, feather, or bow in her hair. I guess if you want to classify my look it would be sweet-chic with a touch of geek. 😀

Now here are some style tips/clips from
Torimy own personal fashion guru, trainer, and my physical inspiration for Mira.

I hope you enjoyed this. Also check out Tori’s jewelry eBoutique: December 10.
