Optional Monthly Question: How long have you been blogging? (Or on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram?) What do you like about it and how has it changed?

I started blogging back in either 2010 or 2011 with my 40 Days and Nights of Eternal Curse blog. I moved on to several other blogs that I ran all the same time before streamlining my efforts into this blog, The ToiBox of Words. I started this blog in 2012 and may be ending it in 2024 because I’m really NOT happy with my server. We’ll see what the future holds.

I’ve been trying really hard to build up my Patreon community. I can’t figure out why so many people are willing to sign up for newsletters but not this. It’s just as free as a newsletter and comes in your email just like a newsletter. Oh, well. I guess if it’s meant to be, it will be. If it’s not, it’s not.

My book about Margie, my rescue dog, is up for digital pre-order and I plan to release the book on April 29, 2024. That’s my wedding anniversary and it seemed like a good day to release it. I’d planned to post the giveaway information this month, but I’ll have to wait until May because of life circumstances. I’m very excited about what I’m giving away and how people can enter. I think it’ll be a lot of fun.

Coming April 29, 2024. Pre-Order Now!

Now, on to the personal updates.

I’ll be at Raven Con in Richmond, VA in the middle of the month and look forward to recapping that experience with you all next month.

How long have you been blogging?
It may take some time, but I promise, I will eventually stop by your blog.
My response time has gotten slower but I’m still making my rounds.

Did you know you can join my community for FREE over at Patreon to receive a monthly update on the creative projects I’m working on? I tell you the truth, it’s better than a newsletter!

Thank you for making it this far down the virtual page. Kudos to you! I’d love to know what you thought of this post in the comments below. Stay safe and be blessed.

I think people hear Patreon and think they have to pay.

I’ve always wanted to attend Raven Con. The year we were going to check it out and see if it would be a good fit for us as vendors, we had to put our cat Rocko to sleep that morning. Never scheduled a time to check it out after that.

Yeah, I can see there being confusion about it costing. I really enjoy Raven Con. This will be my last year as a speaker for a while, due to their understanable rotation policy, but I may set up a vendor table in the future.

People prefer to do what’s easy and what they know — so asking them to sign up on a different platform for a newsletter or to buy ebooks from a different store than they’re used to, will meet resistance. But it will change, in time. A river can’t be moved in a day…

Hi,
I like your blog. It is easy for me to go through. I also like that the IWSG post is at the top when I enter your blog. I don’t have to go looking for it.
Good luck with your book release on April 29.
Have a lovely day and take care.

I think Diane pegged the problem with Patreon. Plus, it’s one more thing to sign up for, create an account for, etc.

I’ve been blogging a little shorter time than you, but I feel like a LOT of us started between about 2010 and 2012. That must have been the golden age of blogging 😉

Good luck on your book release! I started blogging in 2011, about the same time as you. I still enjoy the connections I make with writers and book review bloggers. I hope you don’t stop blogging.

Hi, Toi! I adore the cover of your book! Blogger sometimes has me tearing my hair out, but it’s hard to change to a new place. Despite life’s busyness, I still love to blog. Have fun at Raven Con.

I adore the cover for your new book! Margie looks adorable, and it sounds like a lovely story. I’m sorry to hear that you might be shutting down the blog soon! I completely understand what you mean about having server issues — my own isn’t working as well as I want it to at the moment, and I can just imagine how frustrating it must be. Wishing you all the best!
