Count Your Blessings 04: Creativity

blessings

Creativity

Creativity is a blessing, though many may not know it. Creativity and intellect are not guaranteed counterparts. Some people are very smart, but lack creativity to produce something using their intellect. There’s no question that even the simplest of minds is capable of creating amazing things even if only through artistic expression. Creativity is the one defining factor that has made our world, maybe not better, but more appealing and more comfortable. Creativity can arise from necessary, but it doesn’t have to. I’m blessed to a creative person, but even if I wasn’t, I’d still be blessed to live in a world with so many other creative people.

  1. My school of thought is that we; every person on earth and many animals, are all very creative. Some people were simply not taught to tap into their creativity or perhaps even allowed to tap into their creativity.
It is not that it is lacking but simply an untapped resource, and this is often the case with intelligent/very educated people or very athletic people who put so much energy into other aspects they do not find the time to tap into any form of creativity.
I am very blessed that both forms (intellect and creativity) were strongly abundant in my upbringing. It may well be that as my father is an architect we grew up looking at drafting boards, blue prints , models of houses or buildings, sketches, That granted us (my seven siblings and I) the understanding that a combination of intellect, mathematics, and creativity are powerful.
Also the country of my childhood (Mexico) with its folklore exposes people constantly to creativity, in the food, architecture, arts and artisans.
It is also a great tool to balance the mind. People with brain injuries are often given art therapy as part of their treatment, remember the movie with Harrison Ford, REGARDING HENRY ? I strongly believe it is an inherent part of every person.
I have also observed animals be very creative building; birds and nests, Beavers and Dams, I see my little dog “problem solve” in very creative ways.
As with everything some people can naturally tap into their creativity; their gifts easier than others; prodigies. I have witnessed many people who had their creativity stifled by parents/ educators who could not grasp ‘creativity’
Love your posts Toi , they always excite much though and can open very interesting conversations!

    1. Thanks Catalina. I always look forward to your responses. I always wonder if you’ll have a chance to see what I’ve posted. I remember that movie Regarding Henry; it was good. The more I think about, I believe you are correct. I think every does have creativity within them, but not everyone is blessed enough to be able to harness it.
