It’s Halloween 2013

Halloween is one of those holidays you either love or hate, but fortunately for me, I get to choose to do neither. For many Halloween is full of controversy  and darkness, but for most, it’s just a day that lets kids run with their imaginations and fantasies and lets adults act like kids for a while. Now that doesn’t sound so bad.

I’m not big into celebrating Halloween myself because of its controversial history, but what something was and what it is are two different things. I like scary movies, I like costumes, and I definitely like candy, so why should I stop for just one day to protest a holiday that looks so cute on five year old.

So if you’re heading out to trick-or-treat, be safe and Happy Halloween to you. Otherwise, stay home and watch a movie or read a good book. Don’t be a grumpy-pants and remember to turn off your porch light. There’s no sense in being cruel to little kids.

It’s Columbus Day U.S.A. 2013

Don’t get all huffy- we all know Columbus didn’t discover the Americas and that he had some personal and political issues that haunted his life. Whether you like the guy or not, I think his contribution to the awareness of the Americas is important.

So the guy was a little off in his trajectory to India. If he hadn’t been wrong, who knows how long it would have taken for the rest of western civilization to cross the pond and settle. Not that everything and everyone who came after Columbus was wanted, welcomed, kind, or courteous, but I do acknowledge that history happens for a reason, and I’m glad there’s a North and South America (Thank you Amerigo Vespucci).

Today is Patriot Day U.S.A. 2013

Today is a day to remember the attacks on September 11, 2001. Do you remember where you were when it happened? Have you lost someone to this great tragedy? My heart goes out to all people of the world who’ve been affected by acts of terrorism. Maybe one day we’ll live in a world where our differences aren’t a reason for war.
