Happy Memorial Day! – 2015

Pinterest

No matter where you are from, if you are proud of your nationality, don’t be ashamed to say so. I live in the United States of America. It’s a county with a lot of greatness, great good and great bad. I don’t believe my country is all that different from others considering that they all have a lot of people who want a lot of things, and there’s no way to please everyone.

I won’t pretend to be happy with everything that’s occurred in my country’s past or present, but I am still proud to be an “American”, a term that doesn’t truly define the specific nature of my nationality since there are several countries in North and South America, but that’s indicative of where I’m from. Not everything in the U.S. is black and white or makes clear sense. Sometimes that’s a very good thing and sometimes it’s not.

Today is Memorial Day, and while for some it marks the beginning of their summer, here’s a little video from the History Channel explaining why we really observe this day. I would like to believe that every country in some form or another has a Memorial Day-like celebration, because all nations need to be reminded from time to time of the past so we can all better look toward the future.

This is an updated and reposted post.

Happy Mother’s Day! – 2015

Wikipedia

There’s something about mothers, the bearers of life, the ultimate nurtures!

Let’s be honest, deep down we all love our mothers, even when we don’t get along with them. Mothers are the ones we want to comfort us and tell us that everything is going to be alright, whether they gave birth to us or not. There isn’t much more I can say without getting philosophical, and you guys didn’t sign up for that today. I will however state, that all mothers should be put on a pedestal and praised as much as possible, but especially on this day…unless they happen to be a bad mother. Even bad mothers are due some modicum of respect simply for what they are.

If you’d like, click the link below to see a video I made for my mother a few years back. Just to give you a reference for what’s going on in this video, I live in Virginia and she lives in Texas.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! – 2015

Wikipedia

Unfortunately, Cinco de Mayo is still not considered an official U.S. national holiday. If you ask me, without the Battle of Puebla, to which it commemorates, Texas and much of the southwestern U.S. could still be in the hands of the French today. Aside from the fact that I’m from Texas and share a small amount of Mexican culture, I think this holiday is another wonderful educational opportunity. Instead of going out and drinking heavily, you could use this time as an opportunity to learn about another culture. So with that I say…

Feliz de Cinco de Mayo!
