Bookreview: Firebound #fantasy #FlashbackFriday

This is a special post I do once a month to highlight a book I reviewed some time ago, but never actually featured on my blog. Because this is an author blog and not a book blog, I don’t always feature all the books I read. Like all good and dedicated fans of the written word, I do my part and leave reviews on Goodreads.com, Amazon.com, and sometimes other places, but don’t always bring attention to what I’m reading, unless you follow me on YouTube… hint, hint, wink wink 😉 In any case, please enjoy this review of a book I read at some point in my life.

~

Today’s flashback review is a little special but mostly because today is International Authors Day. I’m featuring a review of a book from an author I really like.

Goodreads

Title:  Firebound

Series: Spellbringers #2

Author: Tricia Drammeh

Genre: Urban Fantasy Romance, Paranormal

Pages: 285

Reading Level: Teen

Content: PG-13 (violence, sensuality, brief mild sexual content, dark and mature themes, adult situations, suspense)

In book one my heart went out to Bryce who seemed to be misunderstood, but in book 2 I really fell in love with Alisa. She’s the only character with no power of her own, yet she seems to be the strongest of them all. Depending on how you look at it, Alisa is the reason the Alexander family is as mighty as they are. In their society of magic and Spellbringers, their connection to this one human keeps them all from becoming monsters… I may be exaggerating a bit, but in any case, I really adore Alisa.

Rachel, on the other hand, is a character that despite her many many flaws, I can’t hate but don’t exactly love her. I feel for her in many ways, but she seems to be a bit self-destructive. Like all self-destructive people, she also hurts others as a result. The one thing she seems to have going for her is the fact that she is apparently the most powerful being on the planet though she hasn’t realized the extent of her powers. As destructive as she is, I still like her more than Jace.

It’s not that I don’t like Jace. I feel a bit indifferent about this character. I can see that he will continue to grow as the story develops, but for now, he’s a pretty face, decent brother, and good son.

The action of this book is much more involved, which I didn’t think was possible. Alisa and Bryce struggle to be close yet so far apart. After he speaks the claiming words to her, they crave each other but can’t share each other or live together. Alisa is forgetting what an independent person she used to be and Bryce is clinging to her affection so he won’t turn to the dark side. Yeah, whoa!

Rachel has the best of intentions trying to protect her brother but she has to know that going on dream dates with a demon isn’t going to end well. Plus, there’s more than one demon after her. When, Alisa, the only human in the bunch has to risk her life to save Rachel, things heat up in more ways than one. What a perfect end to this installment and a grand enticement for the next.

I think I enjoyed this one just as much as the first. Highly recommended again.

I give this book a 5.

Welcome to Harrison’s Heart, book 7 in Heroes for Hire, reconnecting readers with the unforgettable men from SEALs of Honor in a new series of action-packed, page-turning romantic suspense that fans have come to expect from USA TODAY Bestselling author Dale Mayer.

When a call for help comes from Ice’s father, Harrison steps up. A senator has been shot, his wife beaten and his kids are in the wind. It’s up to Harrison to find the answers everyone is looking for.

Including finding the senator’s ex-military and pissed at the world daughter. Only she doesn’t want anything to do with him.

Zoe is on a mission. There’s no room in her world for heroes – especially not Harrison. But he won’t take no for an answer. Only Zoe has angered the wrong people, and they won’t stop until they put an end to her meddling or better yet – to her.

With so much going on, Harrison struggles to pull the pieces together – before their world is completely blown apart – permanently.

#PrimeDay2017; yeah, I didn’t see that coming either.

So, this has been an affiliate blog for some time now. I don’t go out of my way to sell things to people or push products on them. That’s just not who I am. With Prime Day coming up, tomorrow July 11 (sales already started though), I thought I’d share a few of the promotional deals that I’m actually interested in pursuing, especially since I’m a Prime member and haven’t really used any of the special features other than the shipping.

First, if you’d like to try Prime, they have a FREE TRIAL you can sign up for.

Second, I might be addicted to subscription services. I blame it all on Netflix. Once I discovered I could get certain ebooks through Prime for free it got me thinking about a Kindle Unlimited account. Now might be the time to jump on that.

Third, I’ve had several issues with Audible over the years (I’d rather not go over it all now). Needless to say, I haven’t had a subscription in over 2 years, but this new offer has me tempted to give it another try.

Of course, there are all kinds of other promotions going on, but these are the ones that interest me ’cause, well, they’re about books. 😉

Not that this has anything to do with Prime Day, but all my ebooks are on sale today, July 10 – 12, 2017 from $0 – $1.99 (starting 8am PST). I recently had to raise the prices on my print books because of improved interior formatting, so I felt this was a good time to put a spotlight on my ebooks. I have 10 books ranging from fiction to nonfiction, children’s to clean adult, and more.

Facebook event for anyone interested. Open-door.

Lastly, International Authors Day is July 14. Be sure to head to social media and give a shout out to an author who’s entertained you. #IntlAuthorsDay

Return of the #WIP Update 20 #amwriting

WIPU

Well, it’s been a rocky road getting here- posting my first WIP Update in ages, late. Oh well. My plan was to post a wip update or reading challenge video the first Friday of the month and since I posted my Reading Challenge Update video with my IWSG post on Wednesday, today is all about the wips.

Just for clarification, I didn’t forget to post this, I mean not exactly. I actually forgot what day of the week it was. For some reason, I thought there were two Thursdays this week. In any case, here’s what I’m working on.

The 3rd book in the Eternal Curse Series. It’s further in the future and the world hasn’t changed as much as people would like, but it is a completely different world. Oh, and it’s on the verge of complete destruction.

The 2nd book in the Saying Series. This time the focus is on Lisa and Teddy, the best friend and brother of Rebecca, the main character from Sayings 1, It’s Like the Full Moon. New characters will be introduced but they’ll simply find their place within the circle of friends that’s already established.

Solomon Sword (working title). I have no idea what the title of this story will be. It just keeps growing and expanding. I’m very intimidated by this project. This will be epic, if I can ever wrap my head around it. Been building the world for a while and need to settle on plot points.

We are Jardin (Touched by Oma 1). I see this being a two-part series. I thought it would be a simple novella, but the story kept growing. This is a new kind of fantasy for me and I’ve nervous about how it will come off. Almost ready for betas to test it out to see if I’m on the right track or heading for a complete rewrite.

I have several children’s books I’m working on including a story about a chef that’s done but needs to be illustrated and new adventures about my rescue dog, Margie.

I’m also working to finish and or polish several short stories that have been sitting around waiting to meet some beta readers.

-Do you have a WIP Update to share? I’d love to see it.

-Feeling a little lost about what’s going on in this post? Just see the side panel and search ToiBox Topics, WIP Updates, to get all caught up. Also, check my Works In Progress tab to see what else I may be working on.
